Village: Quetzaltenango (formerly Xelahu) Department: Quetzaltenango Age: 1980's Fabric content: 100% cotton Weaving: hand woven in three panels on a backstrap loom, side seems are open Condition: shows typical age and wear, a few minor wear spots in the brocade but nothing substantial Comments: this "sobre" huipil was used for ceremonial purposes, the beautiful neck collar was hand embroidered, the flowers on the yoke (front and back) were embroidered by machine (a foot powered machine, a tremendous amount of work) Measurements: 38.5" wide x 30" long (60" long if opened fully)
