Coconut Masks

These whimsical, colorful masks were hand crafted in Guerrero, Mexico by Nahua Indian families who have been producing this wonderful folk art for
many generations. Each was made using 1/2 of a coconut, which has been dried and then hollowed out. Various attachments (or appendages) have been added using a variety of indigenous plants, including seedpods, small corncobs and an assortment of natural items at hand. Artists then apply acrylic paint, making each mask cheery and unique.
