These whimsical, colorful masks were hand crafted in Guerrero, Mexico by Nahua Indian families who have been producing this wonderful folk art for many generations. Each was made using 1/2 of a coconut, which has been dried and then hollowed out. Various attachments (or appendages) have been added using a variety of indigenous plants, including seedpods, small corncobs and an assortment of natural items at hand. Artists then apply acrylic paint, making each mask cheery and unique.
